He found that some patients felt like there was a conscious person on the other side of the system. However, Eliza was just a collection of keywords that related the words written to the phrases in the database. Though an impressive feat of programming, it was not a person.

Language usage is what makes us different from other animals. Language is used with understanding and intelligence, not just based on keywords. The way we use language is critical to being human. AI systems do not have the same wants and needs as humans, but they can be programmed to help people.
