What is Google Bard? Everything you need to know about it

What is Google Bard?

Google Bard is a large language model (LLM) AI chatbot developed by Google AI. It is trained on a massive dataset of text and code and is able to communicate and generate human-like text in response to a wide range of prompts and questions. Bard can provide summaries of factual topics or create stories.

Bard is still under development, but it has learned to perform many kinds of tasks, including:

  • Following instructions and completing requests thoughtfully.
  • Answering questions in a comprehensive and informative way, even if they are open-ended, challenging, or strange.
  • Generating different creative text formats of text content, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, emails, letters, etc.

What is Google LaMDA?

LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) is an experimental technology developed by Google. It is a language model built on the Transformer neural network architecture, which is also used in other generative AI applications like ChatGPT’s GPT-3 language model.

LaMDA utilizes a statistical approach to predict the next words in a sequence based on the preceding ones. What sets it apart is its ability to foster more open-ended dialog compared to traditional task-based responses. This means conversations can flow freely from one topic to another. LaMDA incorporates concepts like multimodal user intent, reinforcement learning, and suggestions to enhance its conversational capabilities

How does Google Bard work?

Google Bard is a large language model (LLM) chatbot developed by Google AI. LaMDA, a significant language model created and released by Google in 2021, is the engine behind Google Bard. The power, intelligence, and creativity of our extensive language models are combined with the depth of the world’s knowledge. After that, it uses data from the internet to offer original, excellent answers.

It is trained on a massive dataset of text and code and is able to communicate and generate human-like text in response to a wide range of prompts and questions. For example, Bard can provide summaries of factual topics or create stories.

Bard works by using a technique called deep learning. Deep learning is a type of machine learning that uses artificial neural networks to learn from data. Neural networks are inspired by the human brain, and they are able to learn complex patterns from data.

In the case of Bard, the neural network is trained on a massive dataset of text and code. This dataset includes books, articles, code, and other forms of text. The neural network learns to identify patterns in this text, and it uses these patterns to generate new text.

For example, if you ask Bard to summarize a factual topic, the neural network will first identify the key points of the topic. Then, it will generate a new text that summarizes these key points.

If you ask Bard to create a story, the neural network will first identify the key elements of a story, such as characters, setting, and plot. Then, it will generate a new text that includes these elements.

Bard is still under development, but it has learned to perform many kinds of tasks. As it continues to learn and grow, Bard will become even more useful and versatile.

Technical details of how Bard works:

  • Bard is trained on a massive dataset of text and code, which is called a “corpus”. The corpus contains billions of words, and it is constantly being updated.
  • Bard uses a technique called “transformer” to learn from the corpus. Transformers are a type of neural network that is well-suited for natural language processing tasks.
  • Bard is able to communicate and generate human-like text in response to a wide range of prompts and questions. For example, Bard can provide summaries of factual topics or create stories.
  • Bard is still under development, but it has the potential to be a powerful tool for a variety of tasks. For example, Bard could be used to:
    • Help students learn new concepts by providing them with personalized explanations and examples.
    • Assist writers by generating outlines, brainstorming ideas, and editing drafts.
    • Create new forms of art and entertainment, such as poems, stories, and music.

Bard is a powerful tool with the potential to be used for a variety of tasks. It is important to be aware of the potential risks of using Bard and to use it responsibly.

How to use Bard Free in India

1) Go to Bard’s official website at https://bard.google.com

2) Click on the ‘Try me’ option at the bottom right corner of the page

3) Agree to Google Bard’s privacy policy by clicking on ‘I agree’ at the bottom of the page

4) You can now use Google Bard for free without going through a waitlist

Google’s conversational AI offers an interface with a text box with rounded corners to ask questions on any topic using text or voice.

One thing about Bard is that it doesn’t write down the answer in real time or show you the process. Instead, you will see Bard thinking with an animated icon, and then you will see the complete response or your answer.

In the response, you can help train the chatbot by using the thumbs-up or down buttons. You will also get the “Regenerate” button to ask the same question again. Alternatively, you can click the “Google it” button for a regular search instead.

Furthermore, the chatbot features a “drafts” option that allows you to choose from different answer variations. For example, this feature will come in handy if you ask a question that displays a paragraph of text, and from the drafts, you can pick to view the answer in bullet points.

Google hasn’t mentioned unwanted behaviors after asking a number of additional questions. However, Bard does come with a “Reset chat” button from the left navigation pane to terminate and start a new chat session.

In the navigation pane on the left, you can also access the “Bard Activity,” which allows seeing a history of your searches that you can delete at any time. However, you cannot view the same response from your previous activities again.

Google is planning to use Bard to make searches more powerful, personalized, and interactive. Bard is a powerful tool that can help Google achieve its goal of making information more accessible and useful.

When Bard was first launched, it was only accessible to users in the US and UK through a waitlist. However, it is now available in more than 180 countries and territories, and Google promises to introduce support for additional countries in the near future.

What are the limitations of Bard?

Bard, like any other AI chatbot, has limitations in its ability to provide accurate responses when presented with inaccurate or misleading information. This was evident during its initial demonstration. Additionally, the training of AI models like Bard is a never-ending, compute-intensive process because there is always new information to learn and incorporate into the model’s knowledge base.

Despite its widespread availability, it is important to note that Bard is still in the beta-testing phase. Like other chatbots that use generative AI, it may make mistakes and produce inaccurate responses. It is essential for users to remain vigilant while interacting with Bard and to take its responses with a grain of salt.
